![]() Myth I The beginning of every sound lies in the human heart, Myth II God sleeps in stone, breathes in plants, dreams in animals and awakens in humans. (from the Indian Vedas) Brahman Indian creation mythology reports that the first humans were transparent, glowing, musical beings who flew over the earth. When they settled on earth and began to eat plants, they lost their lightness and brightness. Their body became opaque and the single reminder of their original sound substance was their voice. In Indian mythology, sound is also the common primordial matter of all cosmic appearances. Gods are the purest tones. From all living beings down to objects, the purity and portion of voice sinks gradually. However there is nothing that does not have a hidden voice of some kind. A SoundStone has a very high percentage of primordial matter, especially the volcanic phonolite, which is considered the most ancient material. Rocks which are shaped like humans or animals are regarded as gods or hymns. The same concept of the nature of matter gives rise to the idea that heavenly bodies, humans and animals could also originate from stone. Myth III The gods fastened a banana to the end of one string and a stone to the end of another, then let them fall to earth to test the humans. Which gift from the gods would they prefer? As could be expected, the New Guineans chose the banana. From the perspective of the myth, this moment sealed the mortality of mankind. As man greedily grasped the ripeliving fruit, he lost life. Had he, however, chosen the less attractive, but more important stone, mankind would have been rewarded with the godsī gift of immortality. |
